Foodbank Need:

Across the country, uncertainty about the government shutdown has created financial pressures on families and individuals.
Thousands of Santa Barbara County residents, including SNAP recipients, older adults, and federal workers facing paycheck delays, will turn to the Foodbank for help.

As families and older adults face rising costs and unstable food assistance, we’re preparing to purchase and source more food to meet the need. Many families may be seeking food assistance for the first time, and we will need to purchase additional food to meet this rising need.

Your gift goes further here. Every $1 you give becomes $5 worth of nutritious food—helping sustain our neighbors through the holiday season.

Winter Struggles: As the winter months approach, many in our community face reduced work hours in agriculture and service industries, leading to financial strain. During the holiday season last year, the Foodbank served more than 52,400 unduplicated neighbors. The Foodbank provides much-needed relief when work and wages are unpredictable for our community members.

Food Insecurity Impact: Across the U.S. there is an ongoing hunger crisis. In the last year, the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County served more than 209,000 neighbors. This is a significant increase from the pre-pandemic ‘normal’ of about 180,000 neighbors served annually and is on par with the highest level of need they witnessed during the peak of COVID-19.
