The State of Hunger in Santa Barbara County
One County, Two Realities

The American Riviera doesn't tell the whole story of Santa Barbara County.

Santa Barbara County may be known for its wealth and beauty, but
40% of households cannot afford their basic needs, and the county has been reported to have the highest poverty rate in California. From Guadalupe all the way down to Carpinteria, families are feeling the effects of inflation and the rising costs of groceries, gas prices, childcare and healthcare. Behind the vineyards, ocean views and celebrity estates, there are older adults living on fixed incomes, students struggling with work and school, and families juggling budgets to meet the cost of living.

For families already living on tight budgets, these aren't just statistics.
They're the difference between buying groceries, paying a medical bill, covering childcare, or keeping the lights on.

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors.
